Chesterfield, Mo- It was a perfect night for a home opener for the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team, but they were unable to get their first win on the season falling 3-1 to Missouri Valley College.
Both teams came out of the gate with alot of energy as they were getting to the ball quickly, making great runs to the corner and playing quality physical soccer. Missouri Valley got on the board first though in the 23rd minute on a cross that was scored by Juan Carlos Barrios to make it 1-0. After all the chances for both teams, that was all the scoring for the half as Missouri Valley had outshot MBU 11-6.
In the second half the Spartans came out quick again and this time got a quick goal by
Ivan Milicevic in the 50th minute tying the game up 1-1. From there, the Vikings took over as in the 63rd minute the Carlos Arribas was fouled in the penalty box and he was given a penalty kick. He ended up scoring beating MBU's goalie
Ethan Brunk making it 2-1.
In the 73rd minute Eduardo Da Silva made it 3-1 for the Vikings and that would be the final score for the evening. The Spartans were outshot 34-11 in the game as the Vikings ended up having 23 of those shots in the second half. Ethan Burke made 12 saves on the night for the Spartans while Adria Borras made five saves for Missouri Valley.
The team will look to get their first one on the season in front of the home crowd again against Lyon College this Friday at 1:00 p.m.
