SPARTANS SUFFER FIRST HOME LOSS IN HEARTBREAKER

St. Louis, Mo.- Missouri Baptist women's basketball team dominated the beginning of the first half. However, Stephens College battled the rest of the game, scoring with seven seconds left for the 49-47 win.

The Spartans were looking to put a halt to their four game losing streak. Things started out well for the team, as Missouri Baptist jumped out to a 21-8 lead. The Stars crawled their way back into the game, going on a 12-2 run to close the half. MBU lead 23-20 at the end of 20 minutes.

In the second half, both teams went back and forth, neither giving an edge. The Stars tied the game up with just over 10 minutes to go at 36-36, after a two point shot made by Vanessa Rogers.

MBU's Mandy Kirby answered right back with a three pointer, taking the 39-36 lead. Stephens took their first lead of the game at 40-39 with six minutes left. The final five minutes were as exciting as any game held at the SRC this season.

Missouri Baptist was down four with over a minute to go, but got back into the game tying it up at 47-47 after two free throws made by Andrea Seabaugh. The Stars drove down the court and Jessica McConnell scored the game winner for Stephens.

The team was led by Andrea Seabaugh with 18 points and six rebounds. Mandy Kirby added nine points for the Spartans. Stephens had three players in double figures led by game winner Jessica McConnell with 15 points, Danielle Caldwell added 13 and Andie Young chipped in 10.

The Spartans record moves to 6-10 on the year, but will look to get back to their winning ways when the team hosts Columbia College on Saturday January 21st at 2:00 p.m.
