St. Louis, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team suffered its eighth consecutive loss, falling to Park University 57-50.
From the opening tip-off both teams started out with some cold shooting. In the 17th minute things started to pick up. The Spartans started knocking down shots and took an 11-9 advantage. There were five lead changes in the first 11 minutes, with Missouri Baptist gaining their last lead, after Iesha McDaniel made it 19-17 with a two point basket.
The Pirates got hot with their shooting, grabbing a 20-19 lead and not looking back. Park led Missouri Baptist 34-27 at the half. Iesha McDaniel had herself a game with 10 points in the first half. McDaniel had 14 for the game and added eight rebounds. The Pirates shot 50% from the field to the Spartans 30%.
The Spartans came back firing up shots in the second half, gaining plenty of momentum. The team went on a 12-4 run to take a one point advantage after another two point shot made by McDaniel making it 39-38. Park regained the lead but the Spartans didn't give up after Janelle Hensold made a three pointer to cut the score down to 53-50. The Pirates held on though for the seven point win.
Janelle Hensold chipped in 10 points and two assists. Andrea Seabaugh had eight points and two rebounds. The Pirates were led by Danila Fabbri with 14 points and four rebounds. Also, having a nice game was Brianna Beridon with 13 points and Nicole Wilhite with 12 points. A key statistic for the game, the Spartans were 14-28 from the free throw line.
The teams' record falls to 6-13 on the year and will look to getting a win on the road against McKendree University on January 31st at 7:00 p.m.
