SPARTANS UNABLE TO HOLD OFF MCKENDREE

Lebanon, Ill. - The Spartans held a three point lead at the end of the first 20 minutes, hoping to end the month of January on a high note. However, McKendree battled in the second half for the 73-66 win.

The team was looking to end an eight game losing streak and earn their first road win in over a month. The Bearcats held an early 16-15 lead, but the Spartans charged on a 7-0 run to take a 22-16 lead. The team held on the final five minutes, leading 31-28.

With momentum on their side, Missouri Baptist continued to lead early into the second half. McKendree was able to take the lead, at the 14 minute mark. MBU's Mandy Kirby made a two point jumper giving the Spartans a 40-39 advantage, but it would be their final lead of the game. 

Missouri Baptist continued to battle and were down 56-53, with seven minutes left. The Bearcats continued to stretch their lead and fended off the Spartans who gave it all they had for the seven point win. McKendree was 30-42 from the free throw line, helped by Ashley Agee who had 15 of her 21 points come from the foul line.

Three players had double digit points for the Spartans led by Andrea Seabaugh with a team high in points with 16. Mandy Kirby was 6-11 from the field, chipping in 12 points and Janelle Hensold added 10. Brittany Willis added 19 and Caty Ponce had 17 points helping the Bearcats for the win. 

The teams' record falls to 6-15, but will start the month of February off at home on Thursday against William Woods University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
