SPARTAN WRESTLING FINISHES 2012 WITH BIG PERFORMANCE AT RAVEN DUALS

Missouri Baptist men's wrestling turned-in another quality performance over the weekend at the Benedictine College Raven Duals. The Spartans finished with a 3-1 record in the final competition of 2012.

Chris Padilla led the team, posting a 4-0 record on the day. The senior from Fresno City, Calif., began the day with his biggest victory of the day, a 12-4 major decision over York College's Miles Negley. In his second match, he also claimed victory in a 12-9 decision over Concordia's  Alex Stepanek to help MBU to a 32-7 win.

Heading into the third dual of the day, the Spartans lost some key matches, but Padilla again pulled-out a victory. Padilla faced Alex Rust of Morningside and won a narrow 2-1 decision, but Morningside claimed victory in the end with a 22-12 win.

Padilla won by forfeit in the final dual of the day against Truett McConnell, and as a team, the Spartans posted a shutout. Though there were five forfeits in the dual, MBU posted five wins, thanks to big performances by Gabe Roman (125lb), Esmond Ford (141lb), Espen Conley (157lb), Weston Keleher (184lb) and Luis Contreras (HWT).

The Spartans will now take a much-deserved rest before hitting the mats in its next competition on Jan. 5, 2013 at the Midland Open.
