MISSOURI BAPTIST MEN'S TENNIS COLLECTS FIRST WIN OF SEASON

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Missouri Baptist men's tennis team took home its first victory on Monday evening in a dominant 8-1 victory over Greenville College.

The Spartans, whom have had two difficult tests in Ashford University and McKendree already this season, traveled to Greenville and played as well as it had all season. The number one doubles duo of Drew Morris and Mike Rubinelli extended its undefeated streak, beating Greenville's Ian Wolf and Drew Herlein 8-0. The MBU team has been lights-out so far this season and has built quite the chemistry thus far.

Missouri Baptist's number two and three doubles also collected big wins. Zach Schopp and Connor Stevenson won at number two, 8-5, while Ian Furey and Kirk Taas won 8-4 over Greenville's Ryan Haas and Todd Ganton.

Heading into singles with a 3-0 advantage, the Spartans continued its dominant performance. Morris, Rubinelli, Stevenson and Furey all won their respective singles matches in the number one through four slots. In fact, the only win that Greenville collected was by default as MBU's Schopp had to leave his single's match due to injury. At the time, Greenville's Alex Dowley was on top 4-1 in the first set.

The Spartans' Nathan Stachowski also pulled-out his first victory of the season in a straight set victory, 6-4, 6-1. This was Stachowski's first action of the season for the team.

Missouri Baptist was solid, playing four juniors and four freshman. The team will get two weeks off before picking up again on March 9, 2012 with the first home match of the season at Shaw Park in Clayton, Mo.
