Fulton, Mo. - In a tough conference road match up, the Missouri Baptist women's basketball team fell on the road to the William Woods Owls, 78-65.
The Spartans were down early in the first half, but at the three minute mark the team grabbed a 33-32 lead, after Mandy Kirby made three free throws. However, WWU went on an 11-2 run to close out the half, leading 43-35.
The Owls started knocking down a lot of their shots in the second half. William Woods shot 60% from the field, missing just 18 shots in the game. Missouri Baptist narrowed the lead down to 66-61, after Iesha McDaniel made a two pointer, but the Lions went on to cruise for the 78-65 win.
Junior Mandy Kirby led the way with 17 points on 5-9 shooting. Iesha McDaniel had a strong game off the bench chipping in 14 points, on 5-7 shooting and added five rebounds. Andrea Seabaugh was the final Spartan to reach double figures with 10.
Ashlee Taylor led the Owls with 23 points on 7-9 shooting. Also, Megan Aubuchon and Sharron Andrews each had great games with 20 points. William Woods out-rebounded the Spartans 36-26.
The two teams will meet again at William Woods for the first round of the AMC Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
