MEN'S TENNIS SWEEPS TWO IN TWO DAYS

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist men's tennis team started spring break off with a bang, beating St. Louis College of Pharmacy and East Texas Baptist University 9-0 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Spartans (4-2) have been playing quite well of late and showed dominance over both teams on consecutive days. Both days practically were identical in terms of results. The team did not relinquish a match, or a set for that matter, in either competition.

Both days began with another victory for the doubles team of Mike Rubinelli and Drew Morris. The team remains undefeated thus far and won 8-0 both days. On Tuesday, coach James Graham switched his lineup a bit in singles, which paid dividends from the start. Connor Stevenson moved-up into the number one singles slot for the first time this season and defeated College of Pharmacy's Alex Cline 6-3 and 6-4.

Ian Furey, after showing quite a bit of skill over the first matches of the season, moved into the number two position and won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3. Nathan Stachowski, Cole Stevenson, Nick Thorburg and Kirk Taas also collected singles wins in the match.

On Day two, Missouri Baptist took on East Texas Baptist University and though the result was much the same, the lineup looked much different in singles. After a quick Rubinelli/Morris doubles victory 8-0, the teams of Furrey/Taas and brothers Conner and Cole Stevenson both went on to collect wins.

As singles matches began, Drew Morris resumed play in the number one slot after a well-deserved day of rest on Tuesday. Morris looked well-rested too, defeating East Texas' Anthony Williamson 6-0, 6-0.

Mike Rubinelli also returned to the singles lineup and won 6-2, 6-0. Furrey, Stachowski, Cole Stevenson and Kirk Taas also picked-up victories on the day, helping the Spartans to take home another big win.

Missouri Baptist will resume play next week on Thursday against Maryville University. Match time is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at Maryville.
