ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist men's tennis team collected its fifth victory of the season on Thursday with a 6-3 win over NCAA Division II opponent, Maryville University.
Missouri Baptist (5-2) put together another impressive display on Thursday, beginning with another victory for the doubles duo of Mike Rubinelli and Drew Morris. The team is now 7-0 this season. After Ian Furrey and Kirk Taas lost at number two doubles, 8-3, Conner and Cole Stevenson picked-up another victory to make it 2-1 MBU.
One of the best matches of the day was the number one singles match featuring Rubinelli and Maryville's Alexis de Villenure. Rubinelli lost two, extremely close sets to the Frenchman, 6-4 and 7-5.
Drew Morris won at number two singles. That, combined with wins by Nathan Stachowski and Kirk Taas at five and six doubles, put the Spartans in the driver's seat. Connor Stevenson, however, continued the wins for his team. The freshman played at a high level, beating the tough Jeremy Sellmeyer of Maryville, 6-4 and 6-2.
Missouri Baptist will have back-to-back contests this weekend against Baker University and Tabor College on Saturday.
