ST. LOUIS, Mo.- The #19 ranked Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team cruised past Harris-Stowe on Thursday night, extending their undefeated season record to 18-0.
In the first set, the Spartan offense started out hot and were able to take a 10-4 lead early. Then, three more straight points forced Harris-Stowe to take a time out at 13-4. After the timeout, Missouri Baptist went on a 12-3 run to take the first set with a 25-7 victory. The Spartans played very well totaling 13 kills in the first set and a hitting percentage of .632
It was the same story in the second set, with MBU grabbing a quick 11-6 lead making Harris-Stowe take another quick timeout. After the break, the points just kept on adding up for the Spartans as Taylor Cook smashed a kill, then Hannah Carey knocked in two straight service aces, before the Hornets could get another point. MBU closed out the set with a Tina Debarry kill for the 25-12 win and a two game lead.
In the third set, the Spartans rattled off 11 straight points, before the Hornets were finally able to sneak one past the Missouri Baptist defense. The team ended the match with a 25-11 win, with 12 total kills.
On the night, Missouri Baptist totaled 35 kills and 33 digs. Leading the way offensively was Taylor Cook totaling eight kills and an attack percentage of .438. Laura King helped the team out with those kills as the junior chipped in 19 assists. Junior libero Sara Mohesky made impressive on the defensive side, totaling 10 digs.
The Spartans will look to stay unbeaten when the team hosts William Woods University on October 2nd. First serve will start at 7:00 p.m.
