SPARTANS WOMENS BASKETBALL WINS THIRD IN A ROW

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Missouri Baptist women's basketball team won its third game in a row on Saturday taking down the Benedictine College Bulldogs 73-53.

The Spartans came out strong and quickly put the Bulldogs down early. The Bulldogs had a 5-2 lead before MBU went on a 15-0 run to take a 17-5 lead just seven minutes into the game and they did not stop there.

MBU did not let off the gas the entire first half and worked out to a 19 point lead, 37-18 with 2:44 left in the half. The Bulldogs hit a few shots late, but trailed at the half 38-25.

Missouri Baptist came out in the second half looking like they wanted to get home with a big win. MBU pulled out to a 20 point lead half way through the second half, before going on a 9-2 run to make it a 27 point game, 66-39 with seven minutes to play in the game.

The Bulldogs tried to close the gap, but were unable to get closer than 18. The Spartans pulled off the victory 73-53 and move to 3-1 in the AMC and 6-10 overall.

The Spartans were led on the scoring front by three players in double figures. Mandy Kirby led the charge with 13 points. Kristyne Smyth had 11 points and Lauren Taylor had ten points. Taylor Klingelhoefer added nine points.

Missouri Baptist looks to win their fourth game in a row this Thursday night, Jan. 15 as they come home to take on Lyon College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
