SPARTANS CONQUER TROJANS

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's volleyball shook off a loss on Tuesday against University of Missouri – St. Louis and won its eighth American Midwest conference match of the season in a 3-0 win on Thursday night in Hannibal, Mo.

Missouri Baptist (24-4, 8-1 AMC) entered Thursday's match trying to overcome a disappointing loss on Tuesday and did just that with the three set win.

MBU dominated from the first whistle. The team recorded an attack percentage of .255 with just seven attack errors on the night. The Spartans also posted 52 digs in a solid defensive effort. In fact, not one Missouri Baptist player reached double-digit kill totals in a team-oriented offensive display.

Madeline Nesbit was the star. The senior from Belleville, Ill. recorded five kills and a .385 attack percentage with two solo blocks and an ace. That ace was just her second of the year after recording 14 a season ago.

Freshman Catie Ward led the Spartans with 15 digs in the match. Setter Ally Krus also chipped in four kills and 22 assists while sophomore Taylor Cook led the team with seven kills.

Next up for the Spartans is a return to the friendly confines of the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex on Tuesday with a local rivalry match against McKendree University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
