SPARTANS SUFFER TOUGH LOSS TO CROSS-TOWN RIVAL

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist shot just 16 percent in the first half of Tuesday's game against Maryville University in a lopsided 79-45 loss.

Missouri Baptist (0-9) found difficulty throughout the first half. The Spartans were just 4-24 from the floor and scored its lowest first-half point total of the season with 14 as the teams went into the half with a 48-14 Maryville advantage.

Missouri Baptist closed the gap in the second half, but Maryville continued to pressure in the offensive zone. Led by Armon Provo (27 points, 6-7 three-point range), the Saints shot 57 percent from the floor in the victory.

Logan Quinn led Missouri Baptist in the game. The Spartan point guard recorded 12 points and went 2-4 from three-point range. Kalvin Lewis also went 2-4 from behind the arc.

Maryville was led by Provo and Asa Toney. Toney finished the game with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Missouri Baptist fell to 0-9 with the loss and will try to right the ship on Jan. 2, 2014 when the team will take-on conference opponent, Hannibal-LaGrange. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
