ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's basketball had its season ended in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Quarterfinals on Tuesday night with a 75-66 loss in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC.
The Spartans led 37-33 at halftime before being outscored 42-29 in the second half.
The Eagles had four players score in double digits, including Raphael Gay, who notched 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the field. The Spartans were led by 21 points from
Merquiche Lewis and 15 points from
Javaris Moye.
MBU came out and shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, which included 5-for-9 shooting from Lewis and 4-for-6 from Moye. The Spartans ran their lead out to 15 points (27-12) before a pair of late three-pointers from Davion Guity closed the gap to 37-33 heading into the half.
The offense dried up for MBU in the second half, and they watched their lead disappear at 12:46 in the second on a layup from Gay. The Spartans tied it one last time on a three-pointer from
Preston Fortner at 8:07 before CMU slammed the door with a balanced attack over the remainder of the half.
MBU shot 34.6 percent in the second half (9-for-26) and went 2-for-13 from three over the course of the entire game.
The loss completed the men's basketball campaign with a 19-10 overall record and 13-7 in conference play.
