ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist surrendered seven goals in each half to the University of Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday in a 14-3 loss in the home opener.

Wisconsin (1-0) opened the scoring early in the first quarter. Curtis Holland put the first goal of the game behind Missouri Baptist netminder James Rose to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.

With just 3:45 remaining in the quarter, Wisconsin's Ed Lally started the scoring again. Lally scored twice in a matter of a 1:34 to give his team a 3-0 lead.

The second quarter opened much the same as the first. Ethan Farris scored from about three feet out at the 13:25 mark and extended the Badger lead to 4-0. Wisconsin continued to apply pressure and Matt Peter was at the forefront of the Wisconsin offensive effort. Peter recorded a natural hat trick with three consecutive goals to give the team from Madison a 7-0 lead.

The Spartans got on the board late in the second quarter. Adam Trelow scored his first of the season at the 2:48 mark and helped MBU to enter the half with one on the board, trailing 7-1.

More of the same was in store for MBU as the second half commenced. Andy Domato scored twice and Peter posted his fourth score of the game in the third quarter on the way to a 14-3 loss.

The Badgers were led by Peter, who finished the day with four goals. Farris, Lally and Domoto recorded two goals on the day as well, helping to lead the team to its first win of the season.

Ian Brosch, Trelow and newcomer Griffin Trotter posted the only goals for the Spartans on the day.

Missouri Baptist will try to rebound from the loss in a week when the team hosts the No. 5-ranked St. Johns University on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
