DAVENPORT, IOWA — Missouri Baptist University men's lacrosse dropped a hard-fought road contest to St. Ambrose University, 12-10, on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans (2-7, 1-2) fell behind early but had a strong second-half comeback attempt, cutting a six-goal deficit to one in the fourth quarter before the Fighting Bees pulled away late.
St. Ambrose used a dominant second period to take control, outscoring Missouri Baptist 5-1 in the frame to build a 7-2 halftime lead. The Spartans regrouped and responded out of the break, scoring five goals in the third quarter to trim the margin to 8-7 heading into the final period.
Missouri Baptist continued to push in the fourth, with goals from Liam Prindable and Joe Busselman bringing the Spartans within 10-9 with 6:20 remaining. However, St. Ambrose answered with two key goals down the stretch to maintain the advantage.
Busselman led the Spartans with four goals and one assist, while John Dahl added two goals and four assists. Jake Cordes also contributed two goals, and Nolan Portell and Prindable each found the back of the net.
Missouri Baptist held advantages in shots (47-35), faceoffs (19-25), and ground balls (29-26). St. Ambrose capitalized on its chances, converting 2-of-3 extra-man opportunities.
Anthony Fillerup anchored the faceoff unit, going 17-of-22, while Daniel Heinrich made four saves in goal.
Missouri Baptist will continue conference play next week. They will host Columbia College on Wednesday, April 1st. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
