KRISTYNE SMYTH SCORES 16 POINTS IN 72-58 LOSS TO MCKENDREEWILLIAM WOODS DOWNS SPARTANS IN FINAL HOME GAME

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist struggled offensively again on Wednesday night. The team shot just 28 percent on the way to a 72-51 loss at home to the No. 22-ranked William Woods Owls.

Missouri Baptist (10-20) hung right with the No. 22-ranked Owls through the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Spartans led 10-7 before William Woods scored on their next few possessions to take a 15-12 lead.

The Spartans played sound defense in the paint throughout the half and forced William Woods to the perimeter. Missouri Baptist, however, went on a cold streak offensively. The team shot just 27 percent in the first 20 minutes and the Owls gained a 30-24 advantage heading into the break.

As the second half commenced, it was clear that the Spartans would continue to have a slow night offensively. With just 11:29 left, William Woods' Olivia Storjohann hit a three to give her team a 17-point, 50-33 lead.

Things did not get much better for the Spartans down the stretch as the Owls held Missouri Baptist to 28 percent shooting for the game en-route to the MBU loss.

Precilla Santos led the scoring for William Woods on the night. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native finished with 21 points. Storjohann and Stephanie Copelin also did some of the heavy lifting on offense. The pair combined for 20 points.

Missouri Baptist was led by senior Leslie Damper, who finished with 11 points. She was the lone Spartan to finish in double digits.

The Spartans will complete the regular season on Saturday afternoon when the team heads to Hannibal-LaGrange to face the Trojans. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Hannibal, Mo.
