SPARTAN LACROSSE GRABS FIRST WIN OF 2013

ST. LOUIS – Who said snow would be a factor this weekend for Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse? After arranging neutral site games at Lindenwood – Belleville on Saturday, MBU went 1-1 with a 16-1 loss to St. John's and a 20-10 win against Oakland University.

Missouri Baptist ran into the No. 5-ranked St. John's in the first game of the day and realized that a hot goalie can control an outcome just as easily as a high-powered offense. St. John's happened to have both.

Missouri Baptist tried to hold-off the Red Storm, but a 16-goal outburst dashed the team's chance at winning. St. John's was led by an All-American goalie, who turned-away all but one Missouri Baptist shot. Ian Brosch posted the Spartan's lone goal in the loss.

Game two, however, was a different story. Brosch picked-up right where he left off in the first game and set a new MBU record in the process. The junior set a new points record in a game with an astounding seven goals and five assists. His 13 points were the key factor in the win as the record ousted alumnus David Justvig's previous record of 10 points in a game.

Brosch was actually fantastic from the faceoff circle all day, especially against Oakland. He won 13 of 16 draws in the game.

Freshman attackman Aaron McClintock also had a big day. The local product of Fox High School recorded five goals and thee assists of his own. Mike Howle added a hat trick and newcommer Alex Short chipped-in two goals and three assists.

Ben Bowler manned the net in game two and was fantastic. He recorded 18 saves in the game to seal the deal for the Spartans.

MBU will head out on the road against Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday in the team's next contest. Opening face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
