BROSCH NETS OVERTIME GAME WINNER

ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist needed nearly two extra sessions to close out its final win of the season. MBU recorded a needed victory in dramatic fashion against Washington University on Friday, 8-7.

Washington University took an early lead in the first quarter, but MBU countered. The Bears' Bryan Thompson posted the games first goal nearly five minutes into play and gave his team a 1-0 lead.

The Bears extended its lead to 2-0 just four minutes later with a goal by John Metz and placed the Spartans in an even deeper hole. MBU responded with a big goal by Ian Brosch. The senior posted his team-leading 27th goal of the year to put the home team on the board.

The Spartans tied the game at two in the second quarter. Freshman Aaron McClintock posted his first of the game just eight seconds into the new period and put the pressure back on the Bears.

Washington University's Benjamin Glassman posted two goals within a minute and a half of each other to take a 4-2 lead, but the Spartans stayed in it. Alex Short and Ian Brosch both posted goals within second of each other to knot the score at four, which is how the half concluded.

As the third quarter got underway, MBU quickly took its first lead of the game. Brian Bouas fired a shot to the back of the net to make it a 5-4 Spartan advantage. This lead held for just over three minutes however, as Metz posted his second of the game and 12th of the year to tie the game at five.

Metz gave his team the lead with just over three minutes remaining in the third, but MBU's leading scorer posted the equalizer just seconds later, making it a 6-6 match.

The fourth quarter proved to be the lowest scoring of the contest. Both the Bears and the Spartans traded goals and regulation ended in a 7-7 tie. It took two overtime periods to decide a winner and with 12.7 seconds remaining in the second overtime, Brosch scored for the Spartans and put the game away.

Tonight's contest was the final home match of the season for MBU. The team will travel to Lindenwood-Belleville on Saturday to face the Lynx. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Lindenwood Stadium in Belleville, Ill.
