SPARTANS ROLL TO FIRST CONFERENCE WIN

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREAfter going 3-1 on the road over the weekend, the No. 17-ranked Missouri Baptist women's volleyball squad made quick work of AMC foe, Benedictine-Springfield. The Spartans finished with a staggering attack percentage of .606 in a 25-10, 25-8, 25-6 straight set victory on Thursday.

Missouri Baptist (5-1) dominated the course of play from start to finish as the team won its first conference match of the young season.

While it was the sixth match of the season for the Spartans, it was the first for Miami of Ohio transfer Kayleigh Cox. The senior from Freeburg, Ill. had a monster start to her career at MBU, notching seven kills, two service aces, two block assists and a .778 attack percentage.

While Cox started to get acclimated, Taylor Cook continued to produce. The sophomore out of Lesterville, Mo. recorded six kills and four service aces. Molly DeClue also had another big night from the service line. The junior posted six more aces to run her total up to 18 on the season, which may vault her into the top five nationally by Friday morning. DeClue entered Thursday's contest ranked No. 11 in the nation in that category.

Overall, Missouri Baptist held the Bulldogs to a -.046 attack percentage as a team. Benedictine, however, did find success with sophomore, Mackenzie Hartman. The opposite hitter posted four kills and a .333 attack percentage against a stingy Spartan defense that allowed just 14 kills on the night.

The Spartans will now have a week to prepare for the Maryville University Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6. The team will face NCAA Division II squad Bemidji State before clashing with St. Ambrose University and Maryville on Saturday, Sept. 7.
