ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist men's wrestling team squared off against the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans on Tuesday night in Hannibal, Mo. The Spartans came away with a 30-16 victory, and their first team dual win of the season.
The Spartans fell behind early after a major decision loss at the 125 pound weight class. MBU took control of the matchup after that. Senior Chris Padilla won by technical fall at the 133 pound weight class, while Sophmore Espen Conley picked up a major decision victory at the 149 pound weight class. The Spartans also earned points in the 141 pound and 157 pound weight classes to jump out to a 21-4 lead.
The Trojans began to come back against Missouri Baptist after their second forfeit of the night. Hannibal LaGrange picked up points in the 165 pound, 174 pound, and 184 pound weight classes to cut the Spartan lead to 21-16.
Seniors Lucas Keene and Julius Anglickas stopped the Trojan comeback short when they picked up wins in the 197 pound and heavyweight divisions respectively. The Spartans earned the victory with a final of 30-16.
The Spartans look to continue their winning ways next Wednesday, January 22nd when they host the McKendree University Bearcats. The dual is set to begin at 7pm.
