SPARTANS DROP FIRST CONFERENCE GAME OF 2014-15 SEASON

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist women's basketball was outshot 53 percent to 38 percent in the final half of play against Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday in a 65-59 loss at home.

Missouri Baptist (1-4, 1-1 AMC) played tough in the first half and nearly ended the half with a lead as Danna Jenkins knocked-down a bucket with 1:16 left in the half. The Trojans, however, responded with a shot by Ashleigh Hurd-Spencer with one second left to tie the ball game.

The Spartans struggled in the second half as Hannibal's hot shooters were outstanding. Morgan Winkler and Hurd-Spencer combined for 48 of the team's 65 points. Hurd-Spencer, the senior from Australia recorded a career-high 29 points and 15 rebounds in the game to lead the team.

As the final half progressed, the Trojans began to pull away. Taylor Klingelhoefer ended a 13-0 run with a 3 in the corner at the 9:32 mark to bring it back within eight, but Kenna Greenway answered on the other end with desperation three with the shot clock running out. Klingelhoefer ended the game with 18 points, just over her season average.

The Spartans put together a 7-0 run just minutes later as Marshaya Sangster was a one-woman wrecking crew. Sangster posted all seven Spartan points during the run and brought the Spartans back to within striking distance at 53-47.

The Trojans continued to knock-down shots as time wound down and maintained its lead throughout. Hannibal-LaGrange shot under 46 percent as a team in the contest, which led them to their first win of the season.

Missouri Baptist won the turnover battle for the fourth time in five games, but were out-rebounded as a team. Danna Jenkins was the only other Spartan outside of Klingelhoefer in double digits. The Aurora, Colo., native finished with 11 points.

With the loss, MBU dropped to 1-1 in American Midwest Conference play. The team will now look for its second win on the year against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
