BALANCED SCORING PROPELS WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TO 3-SET WIN OVER WILLIAMS BAPTIST

ST. LOUIS – [Box Score] After not seeing any action in ten days, the Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team fired on all cylinders in a straight set victory over Williams Baptist (25-16, 25-18, and 25-15). Senior Day tomorrow at noon against Lyon College is the final home match of the 2014 season.

No. 7 Missouri Baptist (31-2, 10-1) hit an impressive .379 over the three sets. The Spartans combined for 5.0 total blocks, while firing nine aces.

Sophomore Jen "Magic" Brendel was named Hampton Inn & Suites Star of the Match after leading the Spartans with a .700 attack percentage. She drilled seven kills on ten swings with no errors, while adding a solo block and block assist.

Sophomore Mallory Dillon posted an eye-popping 11 kills on 15 swings with no errors (.733 %). She added three aces and eight digs in the contest.

Junior Hana Carey ripped 11 kills with just two errors on 23 swings. She sniped two aces, recorded three digs, and added a solo block and block assist.

Junior Ally Krus led the Spartans with 42 assists over three sets. She added six digs.

In set one, the Spartans used several big runs to take control of the match. The biggest run of the set extended the MBU lead to 20-9, a lead in which the Spartans would never give back. Williams Baptist made a bit of a comeback, outscoring MBU 7-5, but the home team was able to get the winning point with a kill by Medanovic.

The Spartans hit .364 in the set, posting 16 kills on 33 swings. They held the Eagles to just a .167 attack percentage.

Set two provided no drama for the nearly 300 fans in attendance. Missouri Baptist took the first point on a kill by Magic Brendel to give the Spartans the lead for good.

Williams Baptist kept the set close when they trailed 17-11, but the Spartans took over from there. Taylor Cook and Brendel teamed-up for a block to set the Spartans on a 4-0 run to give the navy and white a 21-11 lead.

Taylor Cook ended the set with a kill that gave the Spartans the 25-18 victory.

Missouri Baptist hit a match-low .235 in the set, posting 13 kills and five errors on 34 swings. The Spartans held the Eagles to a match-low .088 attack percentage.

The third set of the match was the most impressive for the 7th-ranked Spartans. They hit a match-high .571 in the finale, posting 18 kills and just two errors on 28 swings. The Eagles hit .292 in the set.

The largest lead of the set for the Spartans did not come until they ended the set with a 25-15 win.

Missouri Baptist hosts Lyon College tomorrow at noon in the annual Senior Day. The volleyball program will honor four seniors: Molly DeClue, Cassie Nesbit, Tori Waser, and Katie Green, before the match.
