SPARTANS SUFFER LOSS IN FINAL GAME OF INAUGURAL SEASON

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist football had several big individual performances, but could not get the offense going as the team dropped the final game of the inaugural 2014 season to NCAA Division I opponent Campbell University, 66-7 on Saturday.

Missouri Baptist (1-10) went down 7-0 after the first quarter, but thanks to an interception by Tremont Davis, put itself back on offense. The story of the day, however, was the troubles the Spartan offense ran into as the Campbell Fighting Camels kept the ball on the ground. MBU gained 123 yards of total offense on the day.

Campbell put together an impressive game from start to finish. The Camels scored 14 in the first quarter, 17 in the second, 21 in the third and 14 in the fourth on the way to 788 yards of total offense.

The lone offensive spark for the Spartans came with just over six minutes remaining in the third quarter. JP Lowery broke loose for his longest score of the year, a 65-yard touchdown run, to cut the deficit to 45-7.

Akile Jones led the rushing attack for the Camels. The running back finished with 118 yards on the ground with one touchdown. Jabari Ridenhour led the receiving corps and finished with 97 yards of receiving with one touchdown.

The top plays of the Spartan defense came from Tremont Davis, who was named the Hampton Inn and Suites Star of the Game at the conclusion of the contest. Davis, the redshirt freshman and Belleville West High School graduate recorded one interception, one fumble recovery and one sack on the day.

Missouri Baptist ended the inaugural season after having played three NCAA Division I institutions, two NCAA Division II and five NAIA opponents. Next season, the team will transition to become a full member of the Mid-States Football Association.
