The Missouri Baptist men's wrestling team squared off against the Hannibal-La Grange Trojans Tuesday evening. The Spartans defeated the Trojans 31-18 to pick up their third win of the season.
The dual began in the 125 weight class where Demarcus Gurlly lost by decision 10-6 to give the Trojans an early 0-3 lead. The Spartans answered with back to back pins. In the 133 weight class, Troy Reed won by pin to put the Spartans ahead 6-3. Aaron Hane also won by pin in the 141 weight class to give the Spartans a 12-3 lead. In the 149 weight class, Will Upson lost by decision which cut the Spartan lead 12-6. Matt Behr won by major decision in the 157 weight class to extend the MBU lead to 16-6.
The Trojans battled back with two back to back pins of their own in the 165 and 174 weight classes to regain the lead 16-18. The Spartans took over from there. Jeff Brock won by decision in the 184 weight class to give the Spartans the lead 19-18. Andrew Mahone won by pin in the 197 weight class to extend the Spartan lead to 25-18. Luis Contreras sealed the victory with a pin victory in the heavyweight class to make the final score 31-18.
The Spartans will be back in action this Saturday when they compete in the Indiana Teach Duals.
