ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist wrapped-up the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday with a 91-61 loss at the hands of No. 12-ranked Columbia College.
Missouri Baptist (11-19, 9-13 AMC) stayed close in the first eight minutes, but thanks to a 15-2 run by the Cougars in a span of just over five minutes, the Spartans quickly found themselves working to dig out of a hole. By the end of the first half, MBU trailed by 16 points.
Things did not get much better for the Spartans in the second half. Columbia College outscored Missouri Baptist by 14 in the final 20 minutes and collected the win on senior night in front of a capacity crowd at the Southwell Complex.
MBU shot just 34 percent from the floor in the game, though the team did find some successes. The team gave-up just nine turnovers in the game and shot 83 percent from the free throw line.
Taylor Klingelhoefer led the Spartans for the second consecutive game. The sophomore posted 21 points in over 37 minutes on the court to lead her team. Jasmine Jackson finished with 12 points, but fouled-out in the game.
The Cougars kept the Spartan leading scorer, Krystine Smyth in check all night. Columbia College allowed the senior just four points on the night.
The Cougars were led by Ashley Fisher's 18 points. Aqua Corpening, Heather English, and Janairrika Bland combined for 43 points in the win.
Missouri Baptist will now move into the AMC tournament and is scheduled to host Mid-Continent University on Monday in the Opening Round. Missouri Baptist received the final home game in the conference tournament. The winner will move-on to play the top-ranked Freed-Hardeman in Henderson, Tenn., on Wednesday.
