The Spartans traveled to Lincoln, Ill. today to take on Monmouth College and Lincoln Christian University. MBU walked away with two victories, improving to 16-1 on the season.
Missouri Baptist came out strong in the first set against the Fighting Scots. Allison Krus led the way for the Spartans. The junior led in assists (13) and digs (6). MBU quickly closed the first set 25-7.
Missouri Baptist's libero, Haley Pouliezos, led the Spartan's defensive effort in the second set with 10 digs, while contributing two service aces. MBU took the second set 25-13.
The Fighting Scots defeated Missouri Baptist in set three. MBU had some different faces on the court this set. Cassie Nesbit led the offense with four kills and a .428 attack percentage. Missouri Baptist fell to Monmouth, 20-25.
The Spartans came back to close out the match in set four in convincing fashion, 25-13.
Kristina Medanovic led the Spartan offense with 11 kills. Pouliezos led the defense with 33 digs.
Immediately following the first match, Missouri Baptist turned around to face Lincoln Christian University.
The Spartans had a very balanced attack in the first set, which kept things unpredictable. Junior Hannah Carey and Medanovic each chipped in with four kills a piece, while Taylor Cook and Molly DeClue both added three. An impressive defensive effort from Pouliezos helped the Spartans defeat LCU 25-17.
The second set was similar for the Spartans. All five attackers contributed to the offensive efforts, along with the setter, Krus. MBU defeated Lincoln in set two, 25-15.
Missouri Baptist closed out set three 25-9. Cook had seven kills in the set with no errors. Krus added 14 assists in the third set alone.
In the second match, Pouliezos tallied up 33 digs. Krus contributed 40 assists. Cook posted a double double, with 13 kills and 10 digs. Pouliezos currently leads the NAIA in digs per set. Krus currently is ranked second in the NAIA in assists per set.
Missouri Baptist improves to 16-1 with today's pair of victories. This Wednesday, the Spartans return to their home court to take on AMC foe Columbia College. First serve is set for 7PM. It is the first BLUE OUT of the season for Women's Volleyball.
