SETTLE LEADS MBU BASKETBALL IN WIN OVER STARS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist's Morgan Settle swatted two blocks and netted a game-high 19 points as she led her team to a 64-41 victory over the Stephens College Stars on Thursday evening.

Missouri Baptist (4-10, 4-6 AMC), led from start to finish as the team combined for 49 rebounds (third highest total of the season) in its third win in five games.

The Spartans jumped-out to a 12-point lead with a 16-4 run to begin the game and simply never looked back, though Stephens College found success in the turnover battle. The Stars forced 23 MBU turnovers and committed just 19 through 40 minutes.

Missouri Baptist took a 15-point, 30-15 lead into the half, but only shot a dismal 31 percent from the floor. The team, however, picked-up the pace in the second half.

The Spartans shot just under 61 percent and held the Stars to 33 percent in the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Junior Morgan Settle had one of her best games as a Spartan in the contest. The University of Missouri-St. Louis transfer led both sides with 19 points. She also chipped-in eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

Sophomore Kennedy Smith received her sixth start of the season and came-up big. The Columbia, Mo., native finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. It was her second double-double of the season.

The Stars' were led by Dana Heggeman both in the shooting game and defensively in the paint. The junior from Warrenton, Mo. finished with 15 points and two steals. She was the lone star to eclipse the 10-point mark on the night.

Missouri Baptist will now get set to head to Fulton, Mo., for another big conference matchup against William Woods University on Saturday, Jan. 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
