SPARTANS STRUGGLE WITH NO. 20 LYON COLLEGE

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist women's basketball struggled from start to finish on Saturday afternoon against a highly-talented Lyon College squad. The Spartans shot just 38 percent from the floor and dropped its ninth conference game of the season in a 73-56 loss at home.

Missouri Baptist (6-13, 6-9 AMC) had issues the entire evening after the Scots went on a 9-1 run early in the first half to build the lead. It was a lead that proved to be insurmountable for the Spartans.

MBU shot just 38 percent from the field, the team's fourth game in a row shooting below 40 percent. While the offense struggled to get going, the Scots' offense heated-up. Lyon shot 51 percent in the contest as the team collected its 18th win of the year

For the second consecutive game, Elliot Taylor posted double-digits for the Scots. The forward from Cabot, Ark., recorded 16 points on the night. Carina Jackson was also impressive. The guard from Sao Paulo, Brazil notched 19 points and went 3-7 from three-point range.

Morgan Settle led Missouri Baptist as the lone player to post double-digit point totals. The junior from Moorsville, Ind., ended with 20 points and one blocked shot.

The Spartans dug themselves deep hole after 20 minutes of play and were unable to crawl out of it in the end. The team trailed 46-22 heading into halftime and made just eight of 23 shots attempted in the first.

Things stabilized for Missouri Baptist in the final 20 minutes, but the team's deficit was simply too great to overcome. The Spartans outscored the Scots 36-27 in the second half.

Missouri Baptist will now have until Thursday to prepare for the No. 1-ranked Freed-Hardeman to come to St. Louis on Thursday, Feb. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Sports and Recreation Complex.
