WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL NOTCHES FIRST BLUE OUT WIN OF THE YEAR

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team defeated American Midwest Conference opponent Lindenwood University – Belleville 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-10) in the first Blue Out of the year and honored the life of Beckett Baker on Thursday night.

The Lynx came into the match fired up and ready to take-on the Spartans (19-1, 7-0). As LUB notched the first two points MBU snapped into action took control, and defeated Lindenwood – Belleville 25-15. Missouri Baptist showed its dominance as th team held the Lynx to a hitting percentage of zero while it posted its highest hitting percentage of the match at 0.345.

LUB continued to fight in the second set as the score was tied 15 times. The Spartans only allowed the Lynx a two point lead before they recaptured the lead that would take them to a 25-21 game two win. Although Lindenwood University –Belleville had a positive hitting percentage in the set, it wasn't enough to overcome Missouri Baptist.

MBU had hit its stride by the third set as Marion Couraud helped the Spartans pull away with the lead. The outside held at the service line for an impressive nine serves in a row and notched four aces out of those nine serves. Missouri Baptist again shut down the Lynx offense and held them to only three kills in the set with a -0.238 hitting percentage.

Mallory Dillon led the Spartans with 12 kills. Taylor Cook followed Dillon with six kills of her own.

The Spartans donned their blue uniforms tonight to join the dedicated fans in the first Blue Out of the year. Spartan Wall, parents, students and volleyball fans of all ages filled the stands wearing their navy blue. Along with the Blue Out, four lucky fans left the match with a Little Caesars pizza gift card after they competed in the serving contest between sets two and three.

The Baker family was also honored during the match.  The Bakers lost their son Beckett at a very early age. The team released balloons just outside the gym and said a prayer for the family prior to the match.

MBU will be back in action next week on Oct. 7 as the team will travel to AMC rival Columbia College. If fans are considering taking any a road trip in 2015, this would be the one, as the number one and two AMC teams go head to head at 7:00 p.m. in the Southwell Complex.
