ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist men's lacrosse team defeated their cross-town rival Washington University on a cold, rainy Wednesday evening, 8-7.
Washington University jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter scoring the first goal of the game. The Spartans, however, answered back to tie the game.
The Bears again took an advance on MBU and notched two goals to start the second quarter. Lorisio Mehmeti and Dan Mollet answered back for Missouri Baptist and tied the game at the half.
The Spartans started off hot after the break as Aaron McClintock found the back of the Bears' net. Washington University tied the score up once again and followed up with another goal to regain the lead.
Missouri Baptist answered yet again as Aaron McClintock scored his second goal of the game to tie the game once more. Then, just minutes later, Lorisio Mehmeti posted his second goal of the game to put the MBU back on top.
The fourth quarter was a big one as the Spartans found the net twice to start things off and take the lead.
As the game clock wound down, MBU was up by one. Washington University gained possession for one last opportunity to score and send the game into overtime. The Bears took their shot with seconds left but goalie Ben Bowler came up with a big save to solidify the win as the buzzer sounded.
Lorisio Mehmeti led the Spartans with a hat trick on the night and Aaron McClintock and Dan Mollet followed right behind Mehmeti with two goals of their own. Tim Borroff also found the back of the Bears net for MBU.
With the win, Missouri Baptist will gear-up for a home clash with Robert Morris - Springfield on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at CBC Field.
