ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist women's basketball committed 27 turnovers on Monday night in the first round of the 2015 American Midwest Conference Tournament and ended its season with a 76-51 loss to Harris-Stowe State University.
Missouri Baptist (8-21, 8-16 AMC) never led in the contest, but hung in the game in the opening eight minutes. It was then, however that the team began to fall into a hole it was unable to climb out of.
Harris-Stowe's Shanique Buford was dominant in the low post throughout the contest. The forward finished the contest with her sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Buford has averaged 15 points per game in her career against the Spartans and that trend continued once again in a clutch situation for the Lady Hornets.
Mia Wesley entered Monday's contest averaging just shy of 30 points per game against Missouri Baptist this season, but was slowed by the visiting Spartans in the game. Wesley finished with 17 points in the game, but was impressive throughout her 26 minutes on the court.
Missouri Baptist missed its leading scorer, Taylor Klingelhoefer, for the third consecutive game. The junior guard missed her final three games of the year nursing a lower body injury.
Danna Jenkins led the Spartans in the game. The sophomore posted 13 points and three steals in the game. Jasmine Jackson followed with 12 points, while Madison German rounded-out the Spartans in double-digits with 10.
Not the way the Spartans wanted to end the season, but the team will now have a long offseason in order to identify areas in which to improve for the 2015-16 season.
