ST. LOUIS – The 2015 campaign came to a close today for the Missouri Baptist men's tennis team. The Spartans made a run at the NAIA Regional Championship, but fell in the semifinals to Missouri Valley, 5-2.
The day did not begin well for MBU, as several players battled injuries and one became ill. The Spartans rebounded with a solid showing in doubles play.
No. 1 doubles duo Drew Morris and Quinton Argent fell to Heitor Garcia and Johnathan Taylor, 8-1.
Conner Stevenson and Yann Herve won at No. 2, 8-4.
Sean Nanney and Tanner Morris followed with a 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles, which gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead.
Missouri Valley proved to be too much for the Spartans in singles action, as the Vikings won all four matches. The two remaining matches were not finished, due to the match being decided.
The loss ended the season for MBU, as well as five seniors. Tyler Cissel, Ian Furey, Drew Morris, Conner Stevenson, and Nick Thorburg played their final match of their Spartan careers.
