ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Missouri Baptist women's volleyball team came out with a 3-1 win against Culver-Stockton on Monday evening.
The Spartans (11-1, 0-0) were down early in the first set, but stayed close as the Wildcats kept hold of the advantage. MBU continued to pursue CSC and gained the upper hand to close out the set 25-20.
Missouri Baptist struck first blood in the second game as the Wildcats struggled to get the offense going. The Spartans held the home team to a .192 attack percentage in the second set on the way to a 2-0 match lead.
A back and forth battle ensued through the third set, but the Wildcats held-in to a narrow 26-24 win. Culver-Stockton, though held to just nine kills, had just enough to secure the win and send the match to set four.
CSC tried to stay alive to take another game from the Spartans. MBU, hit its stride in the fourth set and held the Wildcats to a -0.029 hitting percentage en route to a big mid-week victory.
Outsides Mallory Dillon and Taylor Cook combined for 22 kills on the night. Hannah Carey found herself in the mix with 11 kills. The senior also recorded an impressive hitting percentage of 0.524 from the right side.
Kristina Medonavic had a big night and notched 13 kills. Senior Libero Haley Pouliezos recorded 22 digs for an average of 5.5 digs per set on the night
The Spartans will have a day off before they kick-off conference play against Central Baptist on Sept. 16, 2015 in the Carl & Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
