SPARTANS COME-UP EMPTY AGAINST OWLS

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist's first 10 minutes told the story on Thursday. William Woods (Mo.) outscored the visitors 30-10 in the first quarter on the way to handing the Spartans a 84-67 loss in Fulton, Mo.

Missouri Baptist (2-4, 1-1 AMC) shot 50 percent from the floor in the contest as the Owls took control from the outset. It wasn't until the second half, however, that things started to click for the Spartans.

In the first quarter, the Spartans held a 4-2 lead, but William Woods put its offense in gear quickly. Kaycee Gerald knocked-down a three-ball to get it started, which gave the home team a 5-4 lead. The Owls didn't relinquish this advantage for the remainder of the night.

William Woods put together an impressive 21-2 in the next five minutes and put the momentum completely in its favor.

Missouri Baptist entered halftime down 47-23, but picked it up in the final 20 minutes. The Spartans, led by Amanda Scott's 12-point performance, outscored the Owls in each of the final two quarters.

In addition to Scott, Shay Robinson also found herself in double-digits. The Decatur, Ill., native posted 11 points and went 3-7 from downtown.

The Spartans were outrebounded by just one, 39-38, but recorded eight steals in the game.

The Owls were led by the impressive performance of Jasmine Brown. The junior from South Carolina netted 23 points and went a remarkable 9-10 from the floor. Kelsey Scherder (13 points), Kacee Gerald (12 points) and Peyton Greenlee (11 points) also posted double-digit totals in the box score on Thursday as the William Woods picked-up its second American Midwest Conference win of the season.

Missouri Baptist will head back home on Saturday when the Spartans will welcome the Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) Lady Lynx to the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
