BIG BEE OFFENSE CAUSE OF HOMECOMING LOSS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist fans and alumni young and old descended upon Missouri Baptist and CBC field looking for a big win, but after a disastrous first half, the Spartans dropped its sixth game of the season, 40-10.

Missouri Baptist (2-6, 2-2 MSFA) began Saturday's game with a big drive thanks to the renewed connection between quarterback Billy Richey and big playmaking wide out Isaiah King. The two connected on two big pass plays, including a 45-yard completion to welcome back the wide receiver to the lineup.

St. Ambrose, however, took full advantage of early turnovers. After a fumbled fair catch, the Fighting Bees put together their first scoring drive on a short field. Chase Ferger capped-off a five-play, 22-yard drive to give the visitors a 7-0 lead.

Just 1:51 later, a fumble put the Bees back into scoring position. Kenny Rowe hit a 43-yard field goal to extend the Saint Ambrose lead to 10-0.

Five minutes into the second quarter, the Fighting Bees struck again. Patrick Smith connected with Isaiah Mosher on a 31-yard touchdown reception to make it a 17-0 game with just over nine minutes remaining in the half.

Then, on the ensuing drive, another turnover proved deadly once more. On a pass over the head of Kalen Petty, Luke Snyder picked-off the throw and put the Bees back on offense.

Patrick Smith continued his stellar play and put the ball in the air early. He found Brad Connor down field on a 49-yard bomb, which was completed just moments later with a touchdown scamper by Joey Zito to make it 24-0.

Before the end of the half, Brad Conner tacked-on a 26-yard touchdown reception and posted a 31-spot on the board with 58 seconds remaining.

Down 38-3 in the fourth quarter, it was Antoryio Barton who provided the Spartans their only touchdown of the day. Barton's one-yard carry gave the Spartans 10 on the scoreboard on the day, which is where the scoring ended for MBU.

The Fighting Bees were led by the four touchdown day of Patrick Smith. The quarterback finished with 233 yards of passing and went an incredible 15-17 on the day with one pick.

Isaiah King led the offense for the Spartans with his 79 yards of receiving. Dontrail Johnson, in addition to his fumble recovery, finished with 13 tackles on the day, eight of which were unassisted.

Missouri Baptist will head back to the drawing board next week in a tough road test against No. 4-ranked St. Francis (Ind.).
