SPARTANS DROP EXHIBITION TEST AGAINST PANTHERS
ST. LOUIS. – [BOX SCORE] Kentucky Wesleyan College put together a full 40 minute effort against Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball in the final exhibition test of the season for the Spartans. Brittany Wells posted 21 points to lead the Panthers in a 82-64 win over Missouri Baptist on Saturday.
Missouri Baptist (2-3, 1-0 AMC) kept pace with Kentucky Wesleyan in shooting from the floor overall, but a 7-8 team performance from beyond the arc in the first half put the Panthers in the drivers' seat.
Kentucky Wesleyan started the first quarter well enough and put together a 6-0 run to begin the contest, but Missouri Baptist battled back to tie it quickly. Briya Wilborn posted two quick buckets to lead the Spartans' own 6-0 run to tie it up.
Just seconds after Wilborn's game-tying bucket, however, it was Brittney Wells that hit the three that put the Panthers up for good.
Though they entered the break trailing by 16, the Spartans put together a great showing in the second half. After giving-up 31 points in the second quarter, Missouri Baptist ratcheted-up the defensive effort and outscored the Panthers 22-16 in the third quarter to make it a 62-52 deficit. This forward momentum, however, stalled in the final 10 minutes as the visiting Spartans dropped their final exhibition matchup of the season.
Missouri Baptist was led by the duo of Shay Robinson and Jessica Moore. Both netted 15 points on the day and were the only two in double digits for the Spartans. Moore shot an impressive 60 percent from the floor (6-10) and 40 percent from behind the arc (40 percent).
Robinson was equally impressive and recorded two steals and five assists in the contest.
In addition to Wells, the Panthers had four others finish in double figures. As a whole, Kentucky Wesleyan had nine of 11 players record points.
Missouri Baptist will return to regular season action on Thursday, December 1 as they head to Fulton, Mo., to face the William Woods (Mo.) Owls. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Anderson Arena.
