ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist football looked for an upset win over the Concordia (Mich.) Cardinals, but found one of the toughest running attacks it had faced throughout the season. Concordia rushed for 375 yards in the game en-route to a 58-9 win over the Spartans.
Missouri Baptist (2-8, 2-4 MSFA) struggled on its first drive, but regained its composure after an interception from Gunnar Griffin. On the second drive, after allowing a touchdown drive from the Cardinals, Griffin made-up for the early error.
The Spartan quarterback found Isaiah King down field for another long touchdown pass, a 72-yard connection, and made it a 7-6 game. A blocked point after try kept the score the same as both teams made an early push.
With just over three minutes remaining in the quarter, the Cardinals extended their lead. Concordia put together a 13 play, 71 yard drive, capped-off with a Roderick Dailey touchdown run to make it 14-6 in favor of the home team.
This play in the first quarter, however, was the main highlight of Saturday's game. Ethan Metzler tacked-on a 33-yard field goal with 14:15 remaining in the 2nd quarter, and the Spartans fell in their final road game of the 2016 season.
Missouri Baptist was led by King and Maleek Ross on the Day. The freshman receiver finished the contest with two receptions for 72 yards while Ross completed his day with seven total tackles.
Concordia's stout running game kept the pressure on the Spartans for the entirety of Saturday's contest. Joe Conner finished the day as the rushing leader with 14 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Tyler Fehler also got into the end zone on a carry. He finished the day with 78 yards on the ground.
Missouri Baptist will be back in action next Saturday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. when they welcome the Lyon College (Ark.) Scots to town for Senior Day.
