ST. LOUIS – [RESULTS] The Missouri Baptist Men's Wrestling team competed at the Warrior Duals Tournament Saturday at Indiana Tech in a very competitive field.
The Spartans dualed against Calumet, No. 2 Indiana Tech, No. 12 Lindsey Wilson and Davenport University. They fought tough but fell in all four matches on the day.
Their first against Calumet, was their closest, a narrow 33-23 defeat. Ryan Thomas dominated at 174 in a 16-1 tech fall win to give MBU a 23-15 lead. However, Calumet won the next match with a pin and the final two via forfeit to take the win.
Davenport out of Michigan came calling next for MBU and the Spartans fell 44-6. MBU won via forfeit at 125 before Davenport went on a roll. Clayton Wegener nearly had a victorious match, falling by a close 2-1 decision.
MBU then ran into the two Top 12 opponents to end its day. They dropped a 46-3 match with Indiana Tech and fell 31-12 to Lindsey Wilson. Wegener ended up on the victory end of things at 157 with a big 6-3 win by decision over 16th ranked Jacob Gross. Ryan Thomas and Johnathan Bobeen also had close matches against the No. 2 team and host school.
Thomas and Jake Mattson ended the day strong against No. 12 Lindsey Wilson. The duo both picked up wins in the defeat. Mattson won by decision 10-3 and Thomas in sudden death with an 11-5 win. The Spartans will next compete after the new year on Jan. 5th at the NWCA National Team Duals.
