PIRATES OVERCOME HALFTIME DEFICIT IN WIN OVER SPARTANS

PARKVILLE, Mo. – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist erased a 12-point deficit before half, but was not able to keep the solid play of Park (Mo.) down for long. The Pirates outscored the Spartans 24-16 in the third quarter and iced the game in a 70-56 loss at the Breckon Sports Center in Parkville, Mo.

Missouri Baptist (3-7, 2-4 AMC) put together an up and down first half, but hit shots down the stretch when it counted. Trailing by as many as 12, the Spartans rebounded thanks to solid play from Amanda Scott and a few timely three's.

With 5:44 left in the half, the Spartans trailed 23-11, but with a strong push, held the Pirates scoreless for the remainder of the half and put together a consistent effort to end-up with the lead. Riley Reddin and Danna Jenkins both contributed a three-pointer in the final minutes while Amanda Scott's tenacious play led the team to a 14-0 run to end the half. Scott finished with a double-double after the opening half of play.

The Pirates re-claimed the lead quickly after the half, and never relinquished it thanks to solid ball security. The Pirates ended the game with just eight turnovers and recorded 23 points on the Spartans' 27 giveaways.

Amanda Scott led the Spartans on the day with a solid game both under the hoop and from the floor. The junior transfer from John Wood Community College recorded 15 points and 15 rebounds on the day, a new career records at Missouri Baptist on the boards.

The Spartans will need to re-group for another big American Midwest Conference game on Saturday when the Columbia College Cougars host Missouri Baptist. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Southwell Complex in Columbia, Mo.
