OLATHE, Kan. – Missouri Baptist men's tennis team began conference tournament play on Friday against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Bouncing back from their season finale loss, the Spartans defeated the Eutectics 5-0 to move on to the semifinals.
Missouri Baptist (9-7, 5-1 AMC) showcased their doubles dominance and swept all three doubles for the sixth time this season. The Spartans are undefeated when shutting out their opponents in doubles play.
Junior Sean Nanney and senior Tanner Morris struck first with a quick 8-0 victory at No.3 doubles.
The Spartans' top two duos followed with dominate 8-1 wins each. Ricardo Martin and James Tobin have been impressive all season, improving their record to 12-3.
The bookends of the singles lineup picked up the two necessary wins to give Missouri Baptist the win and a spot in the semifinals.
Nanney won his seventh match in a row, winning 6-2 6-0 at No.6 singles.
Lucas Oliveira clinched the match with a 6-1 6-0 victory at the No.1 spot.
The No.2 seed Spartans will take on the No.3 seed Missouri Valley College Vikings in the semifinals Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
