ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] On a rare mid-week matinee, Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball put together its second-consecutive strong performance. Sam Smith set a new career high with 13 and the Spartans rolled to a 76-37 win over St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Mo.).
Missouri Baptist (5-8, 4-5 AMC) took aim at the Eutectics on Thursday afternoon and it was the Spartan bench that took advantage of its opportunities in larger roles.
It was the second of a five-game home stand for Missouri Baptist and the team shot 51 percent in the effort for the game, but a hot start fueled the effort. The Spartans posted a 26-6 lead in the first quarter alone as the game was controlled by the home team in all but one quarter of play.
Throughout the game, Morgan Rose, the season point leader for the Eutectics, turned heads. The sophomore from Lake St. Louis, Mo., was rock solid for the road squad as she played the full 40 minutes and netted 11 points and four steals. Paige Forshee also played the entire game for St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Sam Smith put together a solid game and led the Spartans in points and minutes played. The senior from Wentzville, Mo., posted 13 points in 26:37 of court time. Danna Jenkins followed with 12 points while Amanda Rowden continued an impressive first season at Missouri Baptist with an 11 point effort.
Smith was not the only one to record a career-high. Jessica Moore, the junior from Eureka, Mo., posted 10 points in her best game of 2016-17.
With the win, the Spartans are just one win away from .500 on the year in the American Midwest Conference with a date with Harris-Stowe (Mo.) on the horizon. The two cross-town rivals will take aim at each other on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled at 1:00 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
