ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer fell 2-1 to No. 17 Columbia College on Monday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Columbia drew first blood in the 18th minute. After an injury timeout forced the Spartans to briefly play with 10 men, the Cougars took advantage. Adam Du Toit sent a free kick into the MBU penalty area where Cameron Durst was waiting to head it home.
The visitors doubled their lead five minutes into the second half. After multiple attempted clears from the Spartan box were unsuccessful, Matheus Lima found daylight and beat MBU keeper Sam Whittington to the lower right corner of the net.
The Spartans mounted a late attack and cut the lead in half in the 78th minute. Gerardo Espinoza sidestepped multiple CC defenders and attempted a cross through the Columbia goal mouth. It careened off a Cougars' player and over the line for an own goal.
From there, however, Missouri Baptist was unable to find the tying goal and the match finished 2-1. Missouri Baptist fell to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the AMC. Columbia improved to 12-2-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the AMC. MBU's next match will be away to Harris Stowe at 3:30 pm on Saturday.
