ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist made their way to Fulton, Mo. to continue conference play against William Woods University. The Spartans edged past the Owls in four intense sets.
Setter Rachel Poole was back in action, after a minor ankle injury, starting the match off with a kill for the Spartans. From there it was a game of back-and-forth. After 16 set ties, MBU pulled past WWU, 25-23.
The Spartans found the lead with ease in set two, but William Woods fired back. It looked like they may catch up, but Missouri Baptist prevailed, taking set two (25-19).
William Woods hit the court for set three with high-intensity, looking to push the match to a fourth game. After another neck-and-neck set, the Owls managed to do just that as they pushed past the Spartans, 25-21.
The match trend continued in the fourth set, as it was clearly anybody's for the taking. The squads battled it out, and Missouri Baptist eventually prevailed (22-25), The Spartans now lead the American Midwest Conference with a record of 9-1.
Once again, Marion Couraud led the match in total kills with 27 (.382 hitting percentage). Tina Medanovicfollowed behind with 13 kills (.409 hitting percentage), and three blocks.
Poole finished the evening with 54 total assists, increasing her season total to 1,128.
Women's Volleyball continues conference play on Thursday, October 23. They will head to Parkville, Mo. to take on the Pirates at 6 pm.
