ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Baptist College on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans will take on William Woods in the AMC Quarterfinals next Saturday at 3 pm in Fulton, Mo.
The Mustangs opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the match on a goal from senior defender, Ben Holmes. MBU was held without a shot on goal in the first half and the score stayed 1-0 until the 78thminute. The home side doubled their lead when Jarrel Grimes posted his second of the year.
The Spartans responded with urgency. Gerardo Espinoza made in 2-1 in the 81st minute with an assist from Eduardo Maia. MBU had an opportunity in the final seconds but Espinoza's attempt on goal was cleared off the line. There were also shouts for a penalty on the play but nothing was given.
"Credit to CBC for coming out positive," remarked MBU Head Coach Jake Alvernia. "We took control in the second half and played better with a few adjustments. Now we get ready to play William Woods. Our focus is on them."
Missouri Baptist finishes the regular season 7-10 overall and 5-6 in conference play. They will be the eight seed in the upcoming AMC tournament.
