ST. LOUIS – A slow start in Saturday's contest against St. Louis College of Pharmacy (Mo.) gave way to a 21 point first half. Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball shot just 30 percent for the game but picked-up its fourth win of the season in a 74-55 decision on Saturday.
Missouri Baptist (4-1, 2-0 AMC) put together a strong effort from the entire team as the squad snagged its first four-game win streak in the
Iris Dixon era.
Just over four minutes into the game, the Spartans were tied at four with the Eutectics until the shots started to fall. Jordan Bruenton and
Amanda Rowden led the charge in the early going as Missouri Baptist finished the first quarter up 21-13.
While the Spartan point total increased, so did the output of the Eutectics. Led by the 19-point effort of leading scorer Allison Dewald, the Eutectics kept it close through three quarters, Missouri Baptist proved to be too much in the end.
St. Louis College of Pharmacy tried to narrow the 13-point gap in the second half, thanks to a big effort from Morgan Dermody, but it was too little too late. Dermody put eight of her 16 points on the board in the third quarter and combined that with 16 boards for her fourth double-double of the year.
Amanda Rowden had one of her best games of the season on Saturday. The senior from Eureka, Mo., netted 12 points and a season and career-high four steals.
With the win, the Spartans have put together their first four-game win streak in the
Iris Dixon era and will enter their game against William Woods (Mo.) on Thursday, Nov. 30 with a perfect 2-0 mark in the American Midwest Conference this season.
Missouri Baptist will play on the road for the next two games before returning home on December 5 in a non-conference class against Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent Benedictine (Kan.). Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
