SPARTANS EDGE PAST BRAVES IN INTENSE FIVE-SET BATTLE

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Women's Volleyball continued pool play with an intense five-set match against (RV) Ottawa University (Kan.). Missouri Baptist managed to sneak past the Braves, taking the tie-breaker set by just two points.

The match began with energies running high, as each team battled it out. Unfortunately, the Braves managed to edge past MBU, taking the first set 27-25.

Missouri Baptist fired things up for the second set as they absolutely dominated at the net. The Spartans took set two with ease (25-7).

The Braves were able to quickly find their groove as they headed into the third set. The match was back on even playing ground, and Ottawa managed to slide past MBU, once again (25-21).

Going into the fourth set, the Spartans knew it was now or never, and they certainly showed that they were not ready to give up. They began dishing out smart plays, allowing them to take the match to a tie-breaking set (25-12).

Early on this set proved to be anybody's game (11 set ties), as the teams went back and forth. The Braves could not come up with the plays to move past the Spartans, allowing them to claim the match as theirs (17-15).

Senior Tina Medanovic led the Spartans, dominating offensively and defensively at the net. The middle blocker finished the evening with 15 total kills (.542 hitting percentage), and four blocks. Cate Cigarini and Marion Couraud just trailed Medanovic with 14 kills each. They also contributed three and two blocks, respectively.

Rachel Luebbers led the back row with 19 digs, once again. The libero also finished the match with two service aces.

The Spartans wrap up pool play on Thursday evening at 8:00 pm. They will take on the No. 4 Dordt Defenders.
