ST. LOUIS – Heading into Saturday, the No. 20-ranked Marian (Ind.) Knights felt like they had something to prove. After dropping three games in 2017, Marian put together a balanced performance against Missouri Baptist as they handed the Spartans a 62-0 shutout.
Missouri Baptist (3-7, 1-4 MSFA) was unable to get its offense going as
Tim Brenneisen got the nod under center. Four quarterbacks were ushered into the game, but none were able to jump-start things for the Spartans.
Marian led the scoring on their first drive. Luke Johnston found Johnny William for a 51-yard hookup to set-up the game's first score. Charles Salary rushed for an 11-yard pickup before Johnston found Greg Miller for an 11-yard strike to give the home team an early touchdown advantage.
The Knights posted three touchdowns in the first quarter as they grabbed a sizeable advantage early. Heading into the second quarter, Marian led 21-0 and had picked-up 213 yards of offense on the way to an impressive 703 yard performance as a team.
Missouri Baptist's defense was led by
Jaylen Cowley. The Freshman finished with 11 total tackles on the day, a half sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss of five yards.
The Spartans will conclude their 2017 season in a week on the road at Taylor (Ind.). Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. CT in Upland, Ind.
