ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist took on the No. 1 ranked Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders on Saturday for the seventh time in team history. As expected, the Semifinal match was nothing short of a thrill as the teams battled it out.
The first set began as another game of back and forth. MBU's smart, consistent plays eventually allowed them to pull ahead by five, however, the Blue Raiders were right on their tail, quickly tying things back up. After a few Spartan errors, Lindsey Wilson was able to move past the Spartans, taking the first set 25-22.
Set two proved to be even more intense than the first, as it was neck and neck throughout, once again. There were 22 ties in set two alone, out of the 29 total match ties. The Spartans put up a great fight, but two consecutive Lindsey Wilson kills allowed them to take set two, 32-30.
The Spartans entered the third set with high intensity, immediately taking the lead. Unfortunately, the Blue Raiders were trailing right behind them, yet again. As Lindsey Wilson began to pull away, MoBap began to lose gas. The Blue Raiders quickly took set three (25-16) advancing to the NAIA National Championship Final match.
Throughout the match, it was clear that Grace Blomstedt was a force to be reckoned with. The middle blocker's ten kills and nine blocks played a key role in the Blue Raiders victory.
Marion Couraud ended her career as the match leader in kills, once again, with a total of 19. Ana Oliveiraand Tina Medanovic finished with 11 and nine kills, respectively.
The Spartans finish the 2017 season with a record of 34-9 after a solid showing at the NAIA National Tournament.
