BELLEVILLE, Ill. – A struggle on defense a tough day on the glass led to a bad day for Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball on Saturday. The Spartans allowed the Lynx to shoot 57.4 percent from the floor on the day in an 111-91 loss to the Lynx in Belleville, Ill.
Missouri Baptist (6-6, 4-4 AMC) got all it could handle against Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) as the Lynx put together a huge first quarter and took full control. The Lynx shot 6-7 from three point range in the opening period and grabbed a 17-point, 29-12 advantage.
Lindenwood continued to open the floodgates through the second quarter. The Lynx shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half on the way to a commanding 54-31 lead after one half of play.
Missouri Baptist, ordinarily one of the most dangerous teams in the nation in the steals category was held to just four in the game, which told part of the story.
The Spartans entered the fourth quarter with a 29-point deficit, but stormed back in the final period of play. The Spartans shot 52 percent from the floor in the fourth to make it a 20-point contest at the end.
Missouri Baptist was led by Shay Robinson in the contest. The junior from Decatur, Ill., recorded 15 points, her second double-digit point output in the month.
Alissa Rowden and
Chanel Brown both netted 13 points in the game while
Amanda Scott posted 10 of her own to round out the players in double-digits.
Allison Webb led the Lynx with 29 points, but the story for Lindenwood was Torre Kohrmann. The senior recorded her 1,000
th career point in the game.
Missouri Baptist will look to get back in the win column next Thursday when they welcome the No. 1-ranked Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) Lady Lions to St. Louis. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Complex.
